Rocks on Wheels is designed as an inclusive playground that challenges play design norms, exhibits world-class excellence in terms of play value, conceptual rigour and material durability.
The project is designed as an inclusive playground that challenges play design norms, exhibits world-class excellence in terms of play value, conceptual rigour and material durability. Consisting of more than 300 ton of raw Victorian bluestone boulders resting on seemingly flimsy domestic scale dollys (invisibly engineered to support extreme loads), all spread out within a landscape-architect-esque designed civic space. Twisted steel protrudes from the boulders (read recycled boulders) and retro-style steel playground equipment appears casually lashed between the stone monoliths. The flooring is custom-design soft-fall that mimics the distinctive City of Melbourne bluestone paving standard detail.
