'Big Feathers' was commissioned by the Brisbane City Council in 1999. It is located at the heart of Queen Street Mall, the busiest gathering place in the city. The image of feathers connects to how birds use their plumage in social situations—the plaque reads "'Plumage' attracts attention, displays status and virility, beauty and availability, and indicates belonging to one group or another."
