Helmed Spirit of Determination, 2026
glass, resin, brass, concrete
52 x 30 x 28 cm

In this series of new sculptures, Patricia Piccinini gives material form to the immaterial. Each work presents a “spirit” held beneath a hand-blown glass dome – an invisible force rendered strangely physical. Suspended between containment and protection, these entities appear both vulnerable and resilient, as though captured mid-manifestation.

Brass armatures and concrete bases ground the otherwise ethereal forms, anchoring hope, resolve, curiosity and determination in the weight and gravity of the ‘real’. The glass domes quietly reference the vitrines and display cases of museums or scientific specimens, suggesting both care and scrutiny – preservation and observation intertwined.

As with much of Piccinini’s practice, the works are less didactic than gently probing. Rather than prescribing meaning, they invite viewers to consider what sustains us: the unseen drives, emotional architectures and interior forces that shape the human experience.
