Landscape/Constellation - Bethanga - Through Hole, 2025
decommissioned aluminium road sign
diptych; 60 x 80 cm each

In this series, Marley Dawson repurposes decommissioned aluminium road signs sourced from regional Australia – objects that, during their official lives, were broken, bent or shot through. Bearing the marks of informal target practice often associated with remote landscapes, Dawson meticulously polishes each surface, removing all painted directives, symbols and official markings. Stripped of their civic authority and prescribed function, the signs are transformed into luminous aluminium fields. The bullet holes, once acts of vandalism or idle pastime, now read as accidental constellations.
