Jim Lambie’s ‘Sunglass’ series, assembled from salvaged sunglass lenses soldered together with lead frames, nods both to pop culture and music – recurring touchstones in Lambie’s practice – and to the artisanal techniques used in medieval stained glass. Using the same leaded method found in Gothic cathedral windows, Lambie arranges the lenses into constellations that can be viewed with the naked eye. Viewers and their surroundings shimmer across each lens, transforming the environment and our perception into a kaleidoscopic field of colour, rhythm and groove.
