Closer (Heart and Soul), 2018
wood, spray paint
198 x 18.5 x 18.5 cm; 25 Kg

Known for transforming everyday objects, acclaimed Scottish artist Jim Lambie evolves his practice from a response to the psychology of space and colour and is influenced by movements in art and the history of place.

Jim Lambie collects the aesthetic remnants from his surrounding and combines them with the here-and-now of everyday life. As a wall mounted sculpture, Closer (Heart and Soul), 2018 is made from a single wooden door that has been sliced up and fastened back together to make a single column. Belonging to a series of sculptures, each work has been spray-painted in various colours, each representing both the rising or setting sun, and the opening and closing of various metaphorical doors. Each work has been given a title that borrows from the title of songs or depicts a time of the day.
