Shrouded in doubt, 2020
synthetic polymer paint, gouache on 32 canvasboards, nos. 111043–111074
202 x 141.5 cm

This work is based on a painting by Arthur Streeton, which depicts a view of the Pacific Ocean from Coogee. Like the Latvian-American artist Vija Celmins, Tillers often creates multiple versions of the same image to explore the differences and variations inherent in the artistic process. This painting is a new version of The Blue Pacific (2016). The sky is based on the work of Papunya Tula artist Bobby West Tjupurrula and also references the work of the metaphysical painter, Giorgio de Chirico.
