This painting is the 278th work in Tillers’ Nature Speaks series – his most major series to-date, which he begun in 1998. Nature Speaks: GU (2019) is based on one of Colin McCahon’s ‘Tau crosses’ or ‘load bearing structures’, a motif that McCahon returned too frequently. For Tillers it is also a reference his initial, and a symbol of his ancestry: ALONE WITH OUR DESTINATION, WITH OUR FATHER, AND WITH OUR MOTHER.
