Keeping Vigil (2021) is a work that has taken a number of different forms and evolved over the last two years. The final composition includes portraits of the philosophers Martin Heidegger, (top left, bottom left and bottom right), and Immanuel Kant (top middle and bottom middle) and the artist Anselm Kiefer (top right). All the portraits are based on Anselm Kiefer’s woodblock prints. The painting includes Friedrich Nietzsche’s words on the subject of philosophers: “WE WHOSE TASK IS PRECISILY TO BE AWAKE”.
