If I close my eyes, 2021
189 Polaroids 1980–1982, nos. 112966–113161
74.9 x 240.3 cm (overall); 10.7 x 8.9 cm (each)

This conceptual work comprises 196 Polaroids that Tillers made between 1980 and 1982. He carried the camera with him during his daily life and documented those he encountered. Asking his sitters to close their eyes, Tillers captured images of friends, family and artists looking serene, thoughtful, and vulnerable. When he moved to Sirius Cove in 1981 he began documenting the view from his flat every day, recording the changing light, weather and scenery – an early exploration of repetition and variation.

This is a new work created from historical material and has been incorporated into Tillers’ canvasboard system. Sitters include Jenny Watson, Julie Rrap, Frank Watters, Geoffrey Legge, and Virginia Spate
