As soon as tomorrow, 2021
synthetic polymer paint, gouache on 32 canvasboards, nos. 111856–111887
202 x 141.5 cm

As Soon As Tomorrow is based on an abstract work by Colin McCahon, which reminded Tillers of the work of Mark Rothko. Like Tillers, Rothko is also of Latvian descent. The painting’s title comes from a newspaper clipping and encapsulates the language used by the media during the current pandemic. The quote "THERE IS NO GOD BUT GOD" comes from a Sufi chant used during a meeting that Tillers attended in the 1980s in New York with the well-known art dealer and collector Heiner Friedrich and his daughter Sixtina. The leader of the group gave Tillers the book: The Unveiling of Love: Sufiism and the Remembrance of God.
