This retrospective of the contemporary Australian sculptor's work creates a dialogue with Koenig's sculptures. The two approaches could not be more different. Koenig belongs to the abstract Informel movement of the post-war period. Piccinini is a younger representative of the Hyperrealists, a movement that has maintained a critical distance from abstraction since the 1960s. Both sculptors, however, share an interest in hybrid beings of human, animal, and plant. The exhibition provides the basis for a supporting program that addresses ethical, psychological, and sociological questions related to conflict research, genetic engineering, and gender issues.
