Bill Culbert's incredible ability to alter the mood of a space, to light up a room through contemplative placement of fluorescent tubes and found objects is a process he has mastered over an incredible 60-year career. By gently illuminating a row of empty red plastic containers, a process he has explored since 1990, he poetically imbues the most ordinary of things such as a humble ‘oil can’ with qualities of the transcendental and sublime. Their cast shadows, emission of light and its auric transmission around a room allow us to enter a meditative space of artistic worship.
