Exhibition Dates: 26 February – 20 March 2004

Fear, War and the Scream at Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery is Tracey Emin's first solo exhibition in Australia. The artist has made the following statement about the exhibition:

"The exhibition will be a collection of paintings, monoprints, sculptures and video made over the past year and a half which concentrate on the aggression of fear and how fear can push us into actions which we often regret. Fear will overide all rationality the same with most human emotions jealousy, hate, and desperation. Even though some of these works are very personal I feel they will translate into a grander language. The show consists of a number of paintings, drawings, sewn works such as blankets and appliques, photography, video and sculpture."

Emin, a 'Young British Artist', is one of the most famous contemporary artists in the world today. She produces work that is confronting and autobiographical in a confessional mode. Famous works include Everyone I Have Ever Slept With (1963-1995), included in the Royal Academy's Sensation exhibition (that was later cancelled by the National Gallery of Australia). London-based Emin has had solo exhibitions in the UK, Germany, Japan and America. She is also a regular contributor to GQ Magazine (UK). A solo exhibition of Emin's work was held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney in 2003.
